Upcoming Field Trips

If you would like to attend a field trip, come to our next meeting to RSVP and get the full details.

June 3-4: Overnight trip to find selenite and aragonite at the Salt Flats in Cherokee, Oklahoma. We will also see the Alabaster Caverns. There will be the opportunity to stay in a motel or to camp overnight.

June 10: A trip to the Missouri Mines Rock Swap in Park Hills, Missouri. We will look for drusy quartz and possibly Missouri banded agates. The swap itself goes from June 9-11 if you want to stay longer and is located at the Missouri Mines Historic Site near St. Joe State Park, 4000 MO-32, Park Hills, Missouri 63601. Saturday, June 17: Day trip to Odell, Nebraska to collect quartz, calcite, and barite (about a 3 hour drive).

A Sunday in August (date not finalized yet): The Association Picnic at Antioch Park in Merriam, Kansas. Bring a side dish or dessert to share and cash to buy something at the auction, which will support the scholarship fund.

Sometime in August: We will go to Buena Vista, CO (Aug. 10-13) or Woodland Park, CO (Aug. 17-20). Or both maybe. We will be mining for smoky quartz and amazonite. Those dates correspond with the shows, as you can see on our Upcoming Shows page.

AUGUST 17-20: WOODLAND PARK, CO Annual show; Rock Gypsies, Woodland Park Saddle Club grounds 19570 E. US HWY 24; Thu. 9-5, Fri. 9-5, Sat. 9-5, Sun. 9-5. FREE Admission! We have vendors with mineral specimens from all over the world. Many of the specimens are self collected. We also have faceted stones, with the faceter on site to talk to you about his craft if you are interested. Gold, silver, crystals, cabochons, fossils, petrified wood and local minerals can all be found! We have a kids area and lots of free rock for kids. Many of our vendors are artists, creating beautiful custom jewelry that you can’t find anywhere else. You can also talk to them and have them create something just for you. September 9-17: People will be doing various things in the front range of Denver, Colorado and maybe also going to one of the Denver shows. Denver is having 10 different shows in this time period so there is a lot of opportunity. It will probably be related to one of these two below.

Public welcomed; Retail and wholesale; 9th Annual Denver Coliseum Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show is doubling in size in 2017. Still on both floors of the Denver Coliseum *and now* all three levels of the adjacent National Western Complex (NWC) + tents behind both historic buildings. (There are plenty of elevators in the NWC). Minerals, fossils, meteorites, beads, jewelry, cabochons, carvings, silver, gold, coins, findings, lapidary, related art, tools, equipment, rough, books, and more. It is fun for the whole family. The show theme is Gold and Silver, and we are expecting to have some fabulous educational exhibits.
